We are glad to inform the GEMMA Community that our student Natalia Zapata Morón (15th edition) has been awarded the Susan Anderson Prize for Women's History 2024 for her Master's Thesis
Her Master's thesis entitled "Maternities in Conflict: Discourses and Practices in Modern Motherhood during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)" was supervised by the professor from the University of Granada Dr. Victoria Robles Sanjuán (Main supervisor) and the professor from the University of York Dr. Asha Abeyasekera (support supervisor).
This prize is awarded annually by the Center for Women's Studies (CWS) for the best dissertation which employs historical methods or perspectives to expand knowledge of women’s lives.
This prize is in memory of Susan Anderson who undertook postgraduate work in CWS in the 1990s; after she died her family and friends wished to honour her life by offering a prize for work in the field she loved. The recipients of this award are recorded on a plaque situated in the CWS foyer (designed by alumna Hilary Kay Doran), as well as on the CWS website.
Congratulations Natalia!
