Language requirements

You can find below the language requirements at each GEMMA partner. We strongly encourage you to also check the language requirements on each partners' website in case there are last minute changes.

  • Bologna
    • English: Level required: B2
    • Certificates accepted: Any official English certificate will be accepted.
    • Italian: Level required: A2
    • Certificates accepted: Dante Institute standard test or equivalent.
  • York
    • English: Following the recommendations of the UK Home Office, the University of York has specific language requirements. You can find further information
    • Certificates accepted:
      • IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component
      • PTE: 61, with no less than 55 in each component
      • CAE and CPE (from January 2015): 176 with no less than 169 in each component
      • TOEFL: 87, with a minimum of 21 in each component
      • Trinity ISE: Level 3 with Merit in all requirement
  • Oviedo
    • Spanish: Level required: B2
    • Certificates accepted: Any official Spanish Certificate; i.e. DELE.
    • English: Minimum level required: B2
    • Certificates accepted:: Any official English certificate will be accepted.
  • Lodz
    • English: Minimum level required: B2.
    • Certificates accepted:
      • First Certificate in English (FCE)
      • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
      • Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
      • Business English Certificate (BEC) Vantage
      • Business English Certificate (BEC) Higher
      • Certificate in English for International Business and Trade (CEIBT)
      • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
      • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), more than 6 points
      • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
        • TOEFL minimum scores according to test type:
          • at least 87 points in Internet-Based Test (iBT);
          • at least 180 points in Computer-Based Test (CBT) supplemented with 50 points in Test of Spoken English (TSE);
          • at least 510 points in Paper-Based Test (PBT) supplemented with at least 3,5 points in Test of Written English (TWE) and with at least 50 points in Test of Spoken English (TSE)
          • at least 700 points in International Communication (TOEIC);

  • Granada
    • Spanish: Level required: B2
    • Certificates accepted: Any official Spanish Certificate; i.e. DELE.
    • English: Minimum level required: B2
    • Certificates accepted:: Any official English certificate will be accepted.

  • Utrecht
    • English: Minimum level required: C1 (Grade B)
    • Certificates accepted:
      • IELTS, Academic Mod.
        • Min. score: 6.5 overall, at least 6 for writing
      • TOEFL (iBT)
        • Minimum score: 93, at least 24 reading, 22 listening, 20 speaking, 17 writing, institutional scores are not accepted
      • Cambridge English C1 Advanced (CAE).
        • Minimum score: 176 total, 169 writing
      • Cambridge English C2 Proficiency (CPE).
        • Minimum score: 180 total, 169 writing
    • Exceptions: You do not have to submit proof of English proficiency if you obtained your Bachelor's degree in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, UK, USA or South Africa or you obtained an IB Diploma or EB Diploma (taught in English).
    • Chinese students have to take the IELTS or TOEFL test.
  • Ceu
    • English: Minimum level required: C1 (Grade B)
