Welcome Session
On the 2nd of October took place the welcome session for GEMMA students and professors of the 2nd edition, and 1st edition mobility students. The objective of the event was the overview of the courses and activities planned for the new academic year. The inauguration act relied on the presence of Adelina Sanchez Espinosa and Margarita Sánchez Romero, coordinators of the master. Also Ana Muñoz Muñoz, Secretary of the Institute of Women's Studies welcomed the students to the new year.
November
Invited Scholar
Gerardo Rodríguez Salas, Professor of English and German at the Universidad de Granada, participated within the subject “Feminist Methodologies”. He gave an introduction to various feminist theories from an application to literature and he introduced figures of American feminism as Elaine Showalter and French feminism as Cixous, and Kristeva Irrigate. Their theories were applied to the following fragments:
- Alice Walter ”In Search of our Mother´s Gardens”
- Virginia Woolf ”A Room of One´s Own”.

Cristina Carrasco Bengoa, Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona taught about Women: Jobs between invisibility and job insecurity” within the subject “Feminist Theory”.

Elisa Costa Villaverde, Professor at the Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was invited to teach within the subject “Feminist Methodology”. She developed a workshop about:
- “Guidelines to create a documentary film from the perspective of gender based on the film documentary Extranjeras”.
Ana Sánchez Bello, Professor of Didactics at the Universidad de A Coruña, was invited to participate within the subject “Women’s Education in contemporary Spain”. She taught about:

Teresa del Valle Murga, Emeritus Professor of Social Anthropology at the Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Erico Unibertsitatea, and Emakunde to Equality Award (2010) See the press notice was invited to the subject “Feminist Methodology”. She developed the following items:

Ana Rubio, Professor at the Law Faculty of the Universidad de Granada, was the invited scholar to teach within the subject “Feminist Theory ”. She developed the topic:

“Citizenship and Civil Society: Equality from politics”
María Teresa López Beltrán, Professor at the Universidad de Málaga, was invited to teach within the subject “Feminist Historiography”. She taught about the Middle Age women’s sexuality. Carmen Agulló Pérez, Professor of Theory and History of Education at the Universidad de Valencia, taught within the subject “Social and Educative Transformations in Spain during the Twentieth Century”. She developed the topics:
- “Women Citizenship”
- “Francoism ideology and “Sección Femenina”.

Susana Salazar Guerrero, Professor and specialist in language and gender perspective at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Universidad de Málaga, taught within the subject Feminist Discourse Analysis.
Invited Scholar
Rosa Cobo Bedía, Professor of Gender Sociology at the Universidad de A Coruña, was invited to teach within the subject Feminist Theory. Her sessions developed the following topics:
- “Us and them in an Intercultural Dialogue”
- “The Globalization of Violence Against Women”
- “The Globalization and New Easements of Women”
Luisa Pinzon Varilla, Profesor at the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas (Colombia) , was invited to participate within “Feminist Theory”. The lesson was entitled:

“The identity of women in situations of displacement: the Colombian case”.
Pilar Villar Argáiz, Professor at the English and German Philology Department of the Universidad de Granada, taught within the subject “Feminist Methodologies”. The sessions gave some keys to analyze the representation of Irish women in the Celtic sculptures, within Irish cinema and literature.

XXV Event of Instituto Universitario de Estudios de la Mujer
On the 6th and 7th of April was celebrated the XXV Event of the Instituto Universitario de Estudios de la Mujer . The act entitle “ Conference about Feminist Research and Teaching” took place on the Salón de Actos Complejo del Triunfo. During the event were organized two roundtables:
RESEARCH TABLE: It was coordinated byMargarita Birriel , who gave a historical overview of the early academic feminism at the time of the Spanish transition to democracy. Other participant teachers were:
- Teresa Ortiz, founder and Professor of the Institute of Women's Studies, told how it was created in 1985.
- Cristina Saucedo Baro staff at the Ministry of Equality Initiatives Unit, stressed the State's commitments to encourage the participation of women in politics, social and economic areas.
- Cándida Martinez, founder and researcher at the Institute of Women's Studies and professor at the Universitdad de Granada, discussed the struggle to include a gender perspective in the scientific field.
- Catalina Lara, Professor and member of the Asociación de Mujeres de Innovación y Tecnología. (AMIT), highlighted the difficulties of women in order to create research groups.
- Pilar Folguera Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, discussed central issues to gender studies, such as work and health, gender violence, sexuality and immigrant women.
- Adelina Sanchez introduced the Master Erasmus Mundus in Women and Gender Studies, GEMMA, that she coordinates since 2007.
TEACHING TABLE : Pilar Ballarín director of the Institute of Women's Studies at the University of Granada and Professor of Theory and History of Education, submitted the table. The participants were:
- Pilar Perez Cantó, Professor of Modern History at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid.
- Mª Eugenia Perez Montero Professor at the Universidad Complutense Madrid, emphasizes the current difficulties to introduce gender studies in the academic world.
- Mª Teresa Gallego Mendez, Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, started the first PhD in Gender and Politics.
- Mª Teresa López, Professor at the Universidad de Málaga, gave a critical perspective of the university related to gender.
- Pilar Ballarín put an end to the teaching table. She concluded that it is necessary to include gender contributions in all the academic fields.
III Women’s Film Festival
Master Erasmus Mundus in Women and Gender Studies participated in the tenth edition of the Women’s Film Festival. In this case the topics were: prostitution, trafficking in women and sexual slavery. The films selected were : “Lilja 4-Ever” and “Irina Palm.” The aim of the session was to discuss about the different representations of the sociocultural violence in the cinema. # Irina Palm Sinopsis # Lylja 4-ever Sinopsis

Carmen Cortés, Professor of French Philology at the Universidad de Malaga, is an expert of literature written by women and about women, especially in the aspects concerning the expression of eroticism, gender relations, the concept of otherness and education of women. She was invited to teach within the subject “Discourse Analysis”.

Both Patricia Jaramillo and Inés Robledo are Professors at the Universidad Nacional de Bogotá (Colombia) and they were invited to teach about Violence and Market in Colombia within the course “Feminist Research: Case studies II”.
Adriana Piscitelli, Professor at the UNICAMP of Brazil) Enlance Becas, was invited to teach within the subject “Feminist Research: Case studies II”. Her lecture was entitle: # “Resignifying Identities; Shifting between Sex Tourism Circuits and European Countries”
January (Mobility)
Jasmina Lukic, Professor at the Central European University (Budapest) and CEU Coordinator for Erasmus Mundus GEMMA Program, was invited to teach within the subject “Feminist Research: Case studies II”. She developed the topic of her current research Scherezade in Exile, a monograph on Dubravka Ugrešić.
BothRosemarie Buikema and Iris Van der Tuin, are Professors at the Universiteit Utrecht (Netherlands) , were invited to teach within the course “Gender Art and Literature”. Their lecture was about:
* “The Making of Doing Gender in Media, Art and Culture”.
Mine Ozyurt Kilic, Professor at the Istanbul University taught about Gender-Bending Fantasies in Women’s Writing within the subject “Gender Art and Literature”.

Katherine O’ Donnell, Professor at the Dublin University taught within the course “Feminist Research: Case studies II”. She developed the item “Justice for Magdalenes Campaign in Ireland”.

Seminar “Among Genres: Existing Models and Prospects for a Culture of Peace "
“Ni Marte ni Venus: Relaciones Pacíficas entre Géneros” was the title of the roundtable celebrated in the Fundacion Euroarabe. GEMMA members were invited to discuss about gender relations.

Noise Summer School
The NOISE Summer School was celebrated this year in Granada. More than 20 European universities participated in this edition. It was entitle “Performing European Feminist Futures: 1968 &1989”and it took place between the 17th and 28th of August.
