Opening Ceremony GEMMA
The past October 14th, the opening ceremony of the Erasmus Mundus Master Degree in Women's and Gender Studies took place in the Assembly Hall “Francisco A. Muñoz” of the Center for Scientific Documentation, with the presence of mobility students of the XIII edition, and the new students of the XIV edition of GEMMA Master. The meeting was chaired by the Director of the University Institute of Women and Gender Victoria Robles Sanjuan, the coordinator of the Consortium GEMMA Adelina Sánchez Espinosa, the local coordinator of the master GEMMA- Granada, Dr. Carmen Gregorio Gil and the technical coordinator Máster GEMMA- Granada Dr. Dresda Mendez de la Brena The event was broadcasted live by Coordinación GEMMA, our official channel on youtube.

Guest professors
Rocío Medina Martín is a professor of Political Science and Public Law Department at the Autonomus University of Barcelona. Her areas of interest are linked to postcolonial feminist political thought, decolonial studies, and social emancipation theories. Professor Medina was invited at the GEMMA Master on October 23th and 25th in the “Women’s Movements” course coordinated by Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán. During these days, she gave a lecture on diverse issues related to the diversity of feminism’s political subjects, decolonial feminism, and the genealogy of “peripheral” feminisms, including: lesbian, black, third world, Chicano, Islamic, and indigenous feminisms.
On October 26th, GEMMA students had a lecture with the activists of Acción en Red, a non-governmental organization whose aim is to contribute to social change, working mainly on the grounds of equality between men and women and the fight against gender violence. The students could have the opportunity to get to know how Acción en Red works and to exchange ideas about how social intervention and education could serve as strategies to foster gender equality in the younger generations. The lecture was part of the course “Movements by Women”, coordinated by Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán.
Activities
On October 26th, the conference “CuidaDOS: ¿Usos y abusos? De un concepto clave para los feminismos” (“Uses and abuses? From a key concept to feminisms”) by Amaia Pérez Orozco, feminist economist and activist, was organised via online through the Youtube cannel of the University Research Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies. She was also accompanied by the participation of Mª del Mar García Calvente and Victoria Robles Sanjuán who together with Amaia addressed the importance of care in the feminist agenda.

On October 27th, a conversation was held on the same channel about the book Autopsia al Machismo (Sexism Autopsy) by Miguel Lorente Acosta in which Margarita Sánchez Romero, professor of Prehistory and Ana Alcázar Campos, professor of Social Work and Social Services, collaborated as well.

Guest Professors
Professor Sayak Valencia gave lectures on November 18th and 26th as an invited scholar in the course “Gender, Art and Literature” coordinated by Professor Adelina Sánchez Espinosa. She discussed the notion of necropolitics and its relation with death economies, in addition to opposing proposals against necropolitics such as transfeminist movements and post-mortem resistance. Prof. Sayak Valencia participated in the GEMMA Master thanks to the Erasmus Mundus scholarship for visiting scholars.
María Jesús López Sánchez-Vizcaíno teaches at the English and German Philology Department at the University of Córdoba. Her main research interests are English-written South African literature, postcolonial literature and British modernism. Her approaches to research are based on the deconstruction as well as the community theories, with the aim of further studying the relationship between literature and ethics. Professor López has published work on authors such as J.M. Coetzee, Virginia Woolf, Samuel Beckett, Margaret Atwood, Zakes Mda and Phaswane Mpe. On November 16th and 17th, she was invited to give lectures in the course “Gender, Art and Literature” coordinated by Professor Adelina Sánchez Espinosa.

On November 19th, the program called “Conversaciones Feministas Compartidas” (“Shared Feminist Conversations) was developed in the Youtube channel of the University Research Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies with Mª Teresa Díaz Aznarte, professor of Labor Law and Social Security. Josefina Jiménez Betancor from Acción en Red and Ana Alcázar Campos also participated, who shared their visions on the Spanish Public Pension System from a gender perspective.

Guest Professors
Esther Mayoko-Ortega, historian, PHD Philosophy of Science and professor CSIC, University Complutense of Madrid, and Tufts-Skidmore, specialized in social science studies, ethnicity, feminist and queer theory and its intersections, gave lectures on November 30th and December 1st, related to afrodescendant feminism. The seminar took place during the course “Feminist Theories” coordinated by the Professor Carmen Gregorio.
Dresda Emma Méndez de la Brena is specialized in International Relations (IR). She was a student of the eighth promotion of GEMMA and she is PhD in the program of Women Studies, Practices and Gender Discourses of the University of Granada. She gave a lecture on December 3rd, her seminar took place in the framework of “History of Feminism, Feminist Historiography”, organized by the Professors Margarita Birriel Salcedo and Rosa Medina Doménech
Dolors Comas D’ Argemir, social anthropologist, professor at the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work at the University Rovira y Virgili was invited to give lectures on December 17th and 18th. Her lines of research are gender and social justice, paid and unpaid women work and family’s changes. She’s currently working on the analyses of caring policies, and this was her main point during her dissertation. Guest Professors
Paula Martín Salván, professor of English Philology at the University of Cordoba and member of the research group “Writs of Empire”, gave lectures at the Master GEMMA on January 11th and 12th as a guest professor in the course “Gender, Art and Literature”, coordinated by Professor Adelina Sánchez Espinosa. Her research focuses on the field of North American literature, modernist and postmodernist novel, critical theory, literary theory, and political and aesthetic thought in the 18th century. Professor Martín has addressed the work of authors such as Don DeLillo, Thomas Pynchon, Cormac McCarthy, J.M. Coetzee, Joseph Conrad, Graham Greene, Robert Coover as well as Cervantes’ influence on North American novelists and postmodernism.
Zelda Franceschi is an associate professor at the University of Bologna where she teaches History of Anthropology, Anthropology of the Americas and Cultural Anthropology. Since 2004, she has been conducting field research in the Wichí indigenous community of Mision Nueva Pompeya in the Argentine Chaco, where she regularly attends field research. The lecture was carried out on January 18th as part of the “Medicalization and suffering” course coordinated by Professor Nuria Romo Avilés
Montserrat Cabré i Pairet, is professor of History of Science at the University of Cantabria, and founder of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Women and Gender Studies “Isabel Torres”, which was under her direction between 2004 and 2010. Her main area of research is the history of women, where she specialises on the history of medicine, of science and of culture. Professor Cabré was the guest scholar in the course coordinated by professor Teresa Ortiz, “Género, Cuerpo y Mujeres en la Historia de Occidente: Prácticas de Salud y Discursos Científicos” (“Gender, Body and Women in Western History: Health Practices and Scientific Discourses”). During the lecture that she delivered on January 21st, she addressed the subjects of women’s authority and authorship in medieval medicine, and women’s health practices during the same period.
María Jesús Santesmases is a researcher at the Center for Human and Social Sciences of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and was invited to give a lecture on January 26th in the course “Gender, Bodies and Women in History: Health Practices and Scientific Discourses”, coordinated by Professor Teresa Ortiz Gómez.

On January 13th, a discussion about Roma feminism and the Gypsy women’s movement was presented in the section of “Conversaciones Feministas Compartidas” (“Shared Feminist Conversations”). Carmen Fernández Molina, Vice President of the Association Gitanas Feministas por la Diversidad and Sara López Overa, sociologist and feminist activist for the Gypsy community, intervened. Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán was also present.

On January 27th, in the same space, Amets Suess Schwend, member of the Andalusian School of Public Health explained their approaches to trans and intersex studies; professor Carmen Gregorio Gil and Ana Alcázar Campos also attended.

Guest Professors
Elena Casado Aparicio is a lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid (CUM) and a member of the “Ordinary Sociology” (Sociología Ordinaria) research group. She holds a PhD in Sociology and her dissertation was awarded an Extraordinary Prize (2002). She received a Philology Degree by the CUM in 1990, where she has worked as Assistant Professor (2003-07) and Associate Professor (since 2007). A teaching enthusiast, she coordinates the Health and Society project, linked to the subject she teaches at the CUM’s Faculty of Nursing. Her lines of research are closely related to care, gender relations and the sociology of communication. She participated in the course “Feminist Methodologies C: Social Sciences and Feminist Critique. The ethnografic methodology and the design of Research Social Cualitative Projects” of the GEMMA Master, organized by the Professors Carmen Gregorio Gil and Ana Alcázar Campos. Her sessions were based on the proposal of a vulnerable and feminist epistemology, investigating the potentialities of technological and emotional mediations for the research work.
Monica Bolufer Peruga is a professor of Modern History at the University of Valencia. She works in sociocultural history and Women’s History, focusing in the 17th C. in particular. Among her interests, she addresses the representation of sex differences, intellectual women’s practices, family history, the different notions of intimacy, privacy and public sphere, and the moral regulation of traditions (civility, hygienism) in the Spanish and European context during the Enlightenment. On February 11th and 12th, she was giving lectures to GEMMA first year students, about “Women and men in the Enlightenment: new historiographical perspectives” and “To think, read and love by letters: women voices in a male archive”. Her seminar took place in the framework of “History of Feminism, Feminist Historiography”, organized by the Professors Margarita Birriel Salcedo and Rosa Medina Doménech
María Ángeles Fernández López-Cao is PhD in Fine Arts and MA in Psychotherapeutic intervention, professor in the Faculty of Education at the University Complutense of Madrid, coordinator of the interuniversity MA in Art Therapy and Artistic Education for Social Inclusion. She is the lead researcher of the Project I+D “Study of museum’s funds from a gender perspective: Prado Museum, National Art Center Reina Sofia Museum, Archeological National Museum and The Garment Museum”. This was one of the projects that she shared in her lecture on February 10th and 11th in the framework of the course “Feminist Research: Case Studies (II)” and “Gender, Art and Literature”: coordinated by Professor Adelina Sanchez Espinosa. In addition, she focused on women and visual arts, women on the imagery and as creative artists.
Marek Wojtaszek is an assistant professor of Humanity Department, American Studies Department and Media Department at the Faculty of Politic and International Studies of the University of Lodz, Poland. She was invited to give lectures on February 15th and 17th in the framework of the course “Feminist Research: Case Studies II” coordinated by Professor Adelina Sánchez Espinosa.
Paloma González Marcén is a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Co-director of the Studies Centre of Archaeological Patrimony of Prehistory. Her research interest has been focused on the theoretical and methodological aspects of archaeological research in the key of gender and public archaeology, addressing topics such as: Archaeology of Women and Gender Relations, Prehistoric Archaeology, Public Archaeology, Heritage and Historical Memory and Recent Prehistory of the Mediterranean. She was invited to the course “Gender and Archaeology” coordinated by Margarita Sánchez Romero on February 17th, 18th, and 19th.
Activities
On February 25th, Mar Venegas, feminist and sociologist, had the opportunity to talk about feminism and the anti-gender movements that are emerging today in addition to the importance of affective-sexual coeducation. Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán also intervened for reviving the debate.

Activities
On March 17th, the participation of Mª del Mar García Calvente, professor at the Andalusian School of Public Health and Mª Teresa Ruiz Cantero, professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, was broadcast on the Youtube channel of the University Research Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies to talk about gender inequalities in health, the role of care and differences in medical attention during the Covid-19 pandemic. Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán also mediated the debate.

On March 18th, an online meeting took place within the framework of the conference “Thinking, feeling and living beyond binarism. Debates for other possible worlds”. This meeting was one of the activities planned by the University Research Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies on the occasion of the 8M. The debate put on the table the questioning of the binary paradigms that are in the middle of Occidental daily life. Lilian Bermejo Luque, from the Department of Philosophy in the UGR; Sam Fernández Garrido, graduate in Biology and transfeminist activist; María José Barral Morán, doctor of Medicine and Surgery; Dresda Emma Méndez de la Brena, PhD from the Women’s Studies UGR program and Laura Fernández Aguilera participated in it.

María del Carmen Agulló Díaz is professor of Theory and History of Education at the University of Valencia. Her research work deals with the history of women's education, where she specializes in the history of republican Valencian teachers. Professor Agulló was invited to the GEMMA master's degree on April 8th and 9th in the course “Socio-educational transformations in twentieth-century Spain: Feminism and proposals for equality” taught by Victoria Robles Sanjuán and made an extensive itinerary of the role of women in the Second Republic in terms of citizenship , modernity and culture.
Activities
On April 14th, the conversation within the section “Cycle Knowledge, Emotions and Experiences of Suffering. Gender Studies in the Cross-disciplinar Circulation of Knowledge” was expounded. Clara Valverde, writer and president of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome League, spoke about the body, necropolitics and politicization of the disease. Dresda Emma Méndez de la Brena, PhD from the Women’s Studies UGR program and Rosa Medina Doménech as moderator also debated.

Grazyna Zygadlo is a professor in the Department of American Studies and Media and associate at the Centre for Women's Studies at the University of Lodz in Poland. Her areas of experience are American Studies, minorities in the U.S., and gender studies. She was invited on May 6th and 7th to GEMMA in the course of “Feminist Investigations: Case Studies I” organized by Gerardo Rodríguez Salas in which she developed a session on Gloria Anzaldúa, her life, her work and her main epistemological approaches.
Mercedes Bengoechea Bartolomé is a professor in the Department of Modern Philology at the University of Alcalá de Henares, is specialized in Sociolinguistics and is professor of English Philology. She was invited to the course “Feminist Approaches in Discourse Analysis: Language and Literature” coordinated by Ana Gallego Cuiñas on May 31st.

On May 24th, the round table entitled “Feminist investigations from the margins” coordinated by Professor Ana Alcázar Campos was held on the channel of the University Research Institute of Women's and Gender Studies. On June 9th and 10th, Teresa del Valle Murga was invited in the framework of the course “Feminist Perspectives in Social Anthropology: Looking and Writing from feminist ethnography(s)” coordinated by Ana Alcázar Campos, María Espinosa Spínola and Carmen Gregorio Gil. During the first session, we talked about how to write and look from an anthropological and feminist approach, taking into account the feelings and emotions of the researcher. Teresa del Valle provided very interesting reflections on how to question our environment and how to question ourselves. During the second session, the students read their texts prepared for the final work that had to deal with an ethnographic observation from emotions and feminism.

On June 9th, a round table was held on the channel of the University Research Institute of Women's and Gender Studies to address the topic of “Evaluation of the implementation of the Law on Sexual and Reproductive Health. Progress and Difficulties”. Professor Victoria Robles Sanjuán, Mercedes Martín Torres, midwife and member of the 8M and 25N Platform, Josefina Jiménez Betancor of Acción en Red and the 8M and 25N Platforms and, finally, Francisca García Gallego, gynecologist and president of the Association of Accredited Clinics for the Interruption of Pregnancy, collaborated in it.
